On Tuesday, February 25th, the Spanish Ministry of Culture, through the General Directorate of Books, Comics and Reading, will hold a tribute in memory of the illustrious librarian and lexicographer María Moliner,
author of the Diccionario de uso del español, on the 125th anniversary of her birth. It will take place at the Ramón Pérez de Ayala Library of Asturias / State Public Library in Oviedo at 6:30 p.m. as part of the presentation of the 2024 CCB Seal to innovative library projects.
On March 30th, 1900, the most famous librarian in the history of Spain was born in Paniza (Zaragoza): María Moliner. A trained philologist, archivist and also a lexicographer, she is best known for drafting the Instructions for the Service of Small Libraries, which served as the basis for modern public library services in Spain, and the famous Dictionary of the Use of Spanish, a tool for understanding the meaning of words and phrases, for learning to use them correctly and finding what is needed to express an idea.
