Two works originally written in Spanish nominated for the 2025 Carnegie Medal for Illustration.

A total of 35 books have been shortlisted, 19 for the Carnegie Medal for Writing and 16 for the Carnegie Medal for Illustration.

Among the works nominated for the Medal for Illustration are two works originally written in Spanish in their English version: Letras al carbón (Juventud Publishing), by Colombian Irene Vasco, illustrated by Mexican Juan Palomino, with the translation by Lawrence Schimel; and El cuento fantasma (Amanuense), by Costa Rican Jaime Gamboa, illustrated with the paper cut art of the also Costa Rican Wen Hsu Chen and the translation by Daniel Hahn.

We also find a work by the Spanish illustrator Mariajo Ilustrajo, I love books.

The Carnegie Medals are the UK's oldest and most highly regarded children's book awards, recognizing outstanding reading experiences created through writing and illustration in books for children and young adults. The Carnegie Medal for Writing is awarded by children's librarians in the UK to an outstanding book written in English for children and young adults.
