PEN Translates awards the translation of 5 works originally written in Spanish

The latest edition of PEN Translates has awarded works of poetry, science fiction, nonfiction reports and mixed-genre collections, with themes ranging from environmentalism to migration and, for the first time, a title from Somaliland

Among the winning works we find 5 works originally written in Spanish by authors from Cuba, Argentina, Spain, and Ecuador.

Among the winners of this edition is Carnaval Fever, by Yuliana Ortiz Ruano (Ecuador), translated from Spanish Fiebre de carnaval (La Navaja Suiza, 2022) by Madeleine Arenivar (Tilted Axis Press), a title that had already received support from the PEN Presents program of the English PEN for sample translations. The aim of this initiative is to support the often-unpaid translation work of samples and to offer British publishers access to titles from underrepresented languages ??and regions, thereby helping to diversify the landscape of translated literature.
