Reading continues to grow as a leisure activity in Spain.

The growth of reading rates in Spain continues and makes reading one of the main leisure activities of Spaniards.

According to the Barómetro de Hábitos de Lectura y Compra de Libros en España 2024, whose presentation took place today at the Jorge Semprún Auditorium of the Spanish Ministry of Culture, 70.3% of the Spanish population acknowledges having read for work or studies over the past year. For the first time, leisure readers exceed 65% of the population (65.5%).

In addition, the percentage of frequent readers remains above 50%, which means that more than half of the population reads at least once a week. The report prepared by Conecta for the Federation of Publishers' Guilds of Spain (FGEE), with the sponsorship of CEDRO and in collaboration with the Spanish Ministry of Culture, notes that since 2017, the percentage of the population who say they read for leisure has increased by 5.8 percentage points, while that of frequent readers increased by 3.5 percentage points.
