Our brilliant collaborator Azucena del Valle has selected the best novels of the year for herself and her polygoneras friends from the Cobo Calleja.
There will be no lack of controversy, but her taste is very knowledgeable and exquisite. It is a shame that we can only select ten books - so as not to bore the audience - because she made a list of 25 essential titles that if we had published it in full, the page would have collapsed.
First of all, with the number one spot stands one of the most important writers of the second half of the 20th century, Theodor Kallifatides with “Una Paz Cruel” (A Cruel Peace). It is the last book of the trilogy about Greece, the Greeks, and their people, which began with Peasants and Lords and continued with The Plough and the Sword. Written in 1973, 1975 and 1977 respectively, they were published by Galaxia Gutenberg in 2024.
