When the Guadalajara International Book Fair closed its doors in 2019, no one imagined that a pandemic would drive its visitors away from the fairgrounds in such an untimely manner:
in 2020 the pandemic forced the organization to organize an online edition, leaving halls and corridors in absolute silence. Four years later, the scenario is very different: in its 38th edition and under the slogan «Camino de ida y vuelta» (Roundtrip Way) proposed by Spain, the guest of honor country, the FIL far exceeded all expectations, being visited by 907,300 people.
The general rector of the University of Guadalajara, Ricardo Villanueva Lomelí, thanked the national media, journalists and influencers for their coverage of the fair, since a large part of its success has to do with the great promotion invested in it. He then thanked the Spanish delegation for the offer and the display that the Spanish government made through its gastronomy, music and thought; he also thanked the writers, academics, artists, politicians and intellectuals who attended, but most of all the readers.
