The philologist Pedro Cátedra joins the RAE, Real Academia Española,

(Royal Spanish Academy) with a love song dedicated to books as objects with life of their own.

The philologist Pedro Manuel Cátedra García (Gabia Grande, Granada, March 29, 1954) has become a full member of the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) to occupy chair A, vacant since the death of Manuel Seco Reymundo on December 16, 2021.

Cátedra joins the Academy after his election by the Plenary of the RAE in the session of June 8, 2023. His candidacy was presented by academicians Francisco Rico, Inés Fernández-Ordóñez and Juan Gil. It was the latter who oversaw welcoming the new academician to the institution and responding to his acceptance speech.
