Mónica Rodríguez has been awarded the Spanish National Prize for Children and Young Adult Literature for the year 2024, for her work “Umiko”,
(Diego Pun Ediciones), as proposed by the jury that met today. The prize, awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Culture, is endowed with 30,000 euros.
The jury has highlighted her work for “the richness, the mastery of the writing and the beauty of the story in this particular universe brilliantly constructed through an exhaustive research and documentation work. For the ability to connect with the audience to whom it is addressed and who is enchanted and entrapped from the beginning. “Umiko” stands out for the exceptional narrative quality that harbors an original, evocative and dynamic story with the smell of the sea.”
