The Galician poet María Jesús Pato Díaz (Chus Pato) has been awarded the National Poetry Prize of Spain, corresponding to the year 2024, for her work Sonora (Xerais, 2023) at the proposal of the jury that met yesterday, September 19th.
The prize, awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Culture, is endowed with 30,000 euros.
The jury has highlighted Sonora for "being an experimental work, an expansive and concentrated conversation between the poem and death, that which, after the mother's orphanhood, drags readers into the abysses of their own lineage. An authentic fulcrum of Galician poetry, Chus Pato explores new ways of deconstructing and reconstructing the frameworks of traditional poetic thought."
In her work, Chus Pato shows us the approach of poetry as a transformative element of language.
