Luis García Montero receives the Carlos Fuentes International Award 2024 for Literary Creation in the Spanish Language.

Spanish writer Luis García Montero (1958) received yesterday the Carlos Fuentes International Prize for Literary Creation in the Spanish Language 2024, awarded by the federal Ministry of Culture and the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).

Journalist Silvia Lemus, Carlos Fuentes' widow; Marina Núñez Bespalova, Undersecretary for Cultural Development of the Mexican Ministry of Culture; Leonardo Lomelí Vanegas, Dean of UNAM; and writer Élmer Mendoza, as representative of the jury, led the ceremony held in the Manuel M. Ponce Hall of the Palace of Fine Arts.

García Montero dedicated his prized text, entitled “Testigo del mundo,” to his friend, Mexican journalist Cristina Pacheco, who passed away in December 2023.
