The Eisner awards speak Spanish in the 2024 edition

Four Spanish artists have been recognized at the Eisner Awards 2024 gala, which were presented last Friday at the San Diego Comic Con

Cartoonist Marcos Martín, illustrators Bruno Redondo and Juanjo Guarnido, and writer Juan Díaz Canales were the Spanish representatives who won awards in various categories at the gala. Latin talent was also represented at the awards by Mexican-American author Pedro Martín, who won in the best children's publication category for his book “Mexikid: A Graphic Memoir.”

The Eisner Awards, considered the Oscars of the ninth art, include more and more authors from Spanish-speaking countries in their lists of finalists every year. In this 36th edition, the winners repeated the title, since the cartoonist Marcos Martín, who received the award for best digital comic for “Friday,” vols 7-8, in which he shares credits with the American scriptwriter Ed Brubaker, already has two other Eisner awards to his credit. The first one for his work in the comic “Daredevil” in 2012 and another one, in 2015, for “The Private Eye.”
