The Sevillian writer Julia Uceda, winner of the National Poetry Prize, has died

The Sevillian author Julia Uceda, one of the “most personal and recognized” voices of current Spanish poetry and distinguished with the National Poetry Prize in 2003, among other awards, died Sunday at the age of 98

The José Manuel Lara Foundation has confirmed the news in a statement and has conveyed all its affection to her family and friends. 'Our literature is in mourning today,' they lamented. Her last work, “Poesía completa, was published in 2023.

Born in 1925, Uceda held a PhD in Philosophy and Letters from the University of Seville, where she taught for several years. She was a professor at Michigan State University (United States) from 1965 to 1973. After a brief stay in Spain, she left the country again to reside in Ireland until 1976, when she moved her residence to Galicia, where she currently lived.
