Publishnews interview with writer David Unger

David Unger was awarded the Miguel Ángel Asturias National Literature Prize in 2014.

Ten years have passed since that distinction and to this edition of FILGUA he has arrived as one of the authors to whom a heartfelt tribute is dedicated as part of the central theme of the fair: Migration.

The author of “Vivir en el maldito trópico” was born in 1950 in Guatemala City. In 1954, he emigrated with his parents to Florida and later moved to New York, where he lives to this day.

Although he writes in English (translated by Javier Mosquera Saravia), he is considered one of the most important Guatemalan writers.

In conversation with Publishnews, he shared that "returning to Guatemala is always complex because he has a lot of family and few days".  For him, migration is an issue that goes beyond the crossing of some geographical boundary and he lives it closely in New York where it is estimated that approximately 300,000 Guatemalans live.
