Comic book portal, ComicBook, reports that comic book publisher BOOM! Studios has been acquired by Penguin Random House, in a major shake-up of the comic book world.
This is the latest behind-the-scenes change at BOOM! since its founding in 2005. Most recently, in 2017, 20th Century Fox acquired a minority share in the publisher. That ownership then passed to The Walt Disney Company following the acquisition of Fox's assets in 2019.
In recent years, Penguin Random House has become an increasingly important player in the comics industry, handling distribution and marketing for DC and direct-to-market distribution for Marvel Comics, Dark Horse Comics, IDW Publishing, etc.
It is not clear how this deal affects BOOM!'s distribution with Diamond Comics Distributors, nor is it clear if there will be any layoffs for the publisher's employees. But as announced by the American portal yesterday, July 10, it was the last day at the company for Filip Sablik director of Publishing and Marketing at BOOM! Studios.
