With “Plegaria por las conversations”, the Spanish poet Jesús Beades (Seville, 1978) won the Best Poem in the World award, which is given annually by Nobel Editions, according to the announcement made by the publisher on Thursday, March 21st, World Day of Poetry.
Beades' poem is remarkable for its perfect use of formal resources and the invisible rhetoric of its common language, the verdict states. 'The rhythmic and metric rigor is surprising in a style that owes much to a reference in traditional poetry, less visible in our time: Manuel Machado. Furthermore, this prayer is not a sublime prayer, but a memory of the memorable, and often fleeting, moments that we share with those who give meaning to our lives.'
The poem will be published in a book along with the other finalists selected by the jury. The prize is worth 2,000 euros. The award will take place in a joint ceremony with the Jovellanos International Essay Prize on a date to be determined.
