ACTUALIDAD LITERATURA: Your first novel is titled “Sendero de estrellas.” What cand you tell us about it and why would it be of interest?

MARTA RENATO: “Sendero de estrellas” is a historical fiction novel set in Catalonia at the beginning of the 16th century. It deals with the persecution of witches from a different perspective, from the point of view of an apprentice healer and a young priest assigned to a remote village in the Pyrenees. My intention was to contrast the traditional figure of the witch and her ancestral knowledge of medicinal plants with a historical moment of change. Renaissance thinking was beginning to be established in medicine and pharmaceutical science.  However, at the same time, beliefs and superstitions from the Middle Ages still remained. The two protagonists try to define their own path in life outside of established behavioral patterns.
