The Spaniards Antonio Altarriba, Sergio García Sánchez and Lola Moral win the Gran Prix de la Critique ACBD 2024.

It was an open secret that 'El cielo en la cabeza' (Editorial Standard, 2023), by screenwriter Antonio Altarriba, illustrator Sergio García and colorist Lola Moral was one of the best comics of 2023.

Selected by the illustrious Angoulême Comic Festival, which will be held in January, this work in which two national prizes come together (Antonio Altarriba, National Comic Prize of Spain 2010, and Sergio García, National Illustration Prize of Spain 2022 ), has just been distinguished with one of the most important awards in the world of comics, The Gran Prix de la Critique ACBD 2024, awarded by the French Association of Comic Critics and Journalists (ABCD).

'El cielo en la cabeza' has been published in France by Denoël Graphic. This is the second time that Antonio Altarriba has been recognized with this award. The previous one was in 2015, together with Keko, for “Yo, asesino,” (Norma editorial, 2015).

The French Association of Comic Critics and Journalists, in the statement where the award was made official, highlighted that Antonio Altarriba once again weaves an uncompromising portrait of the darkest part of the human soul. The current chaos is downplayed and exaggerated, at the same time, thanks to the astute plasticity of Sergio García Sánchez's art, which plays with perspectives and proportions, using a particularly inventive narrative.
