Meet the nine candidates for the Òmnium Award for Best Novel of the Year

Today, the nine finalists for the Òmnium Award for the Best Novel of the Year 2023 have been announced.

The Òmnium Award for the Best Novel of the Year debuted in 2017 with the idea of emulating highly prestigious awards in world literature, such as the French Goncourt Prize or the English Booker Prize, with the objective of highlighting works written in Catalan, promoting their translation and revitalizing the sector.

Among the winners of previous editions are: “Boulder,” by Eva Baltasar, which in the English translation was a finalist for the prestigious International Booker Prize.

The finalist works, published between November 2022 and October 2023, have been selected by a committee of experts formed by Valèria Gaillard, translator and cultural journalist; Enric Gomà, writer, screenwriter and linguistic promoter; Júlia Ojeda, literary critic; and Esteve Plantada, journalist and poet.

The jury, made up of Magí Camps, Neus Real, Marta Pessarrodona, Toni Puntí and Marta Segarra, will announce the three finalists this December and the prize, of 25,000 euros, 20,000 for the winner and 5,000 for the promotion of the work, will be announced in January.
