The Spanish playwright Fermín Cabal, dies at the age of 75

The playwright and theater director Fermín Cabal (León, 1948) died on Monday, November 13 in Madrid at the age of 75.

He was a great figure of independent theater and left a long career also dedicated to the adaptation of texts and teaching.

Considered in his field as one of the authors most committed to theater, Cabal was a staunch militant against fascism. Likewise, he was a founding member of the Academy of Performing Arts of Madrid and since 2018 was part of the board of directors of the General Society of Authors and Editors of Spain (SGAE), of which he held the interim presidency after the resignation of Pilar Jury, for seven months, until Antonio Onetti was appointed.

His theatrical debut as an author and director occurred in October 1978, when the Compañía Monumental de las Ventas staged Tu estás loco, which was followed by pieces such as El cisne, ¿Fuiste a ver a la abuela?,  Sopa de mijo para cenar, an independent version of Dario Fo’s No se paga, no se paga, El caballito del diablo, Castillos en el aire and Arde Nápoles, among many others.
