CEGAL, the Spanish Confederation of Bookstore Guilds and Associations, has announced the 25 bookstores that, in this edition, are competing for the Cultural Bookstore Award, given in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture of Spain.
The objective of this initiative is to contribute to the public recognition of those bookstores that are characterized by promoting a continuous task of cultural revitalization and promotion of books and reading inside or outside the physical space of the bookstore. The daily work of booksellers will also be considered, reflected in the treatment of the editorial collection and other aspects of their profession.
The prize, which has been awarded since 1999, has a financial prize of €6,000, and bookstores associated with CEGAL for at least 6 years are eligible to participate. They must be open to the public and have promoted continuous cultural revitalization and book distribution activities. A jury made up of booksellers, representatives of the publishing sector and national winners in the different categories, will deliberate among the projects presented by the bookstores and will choose the winner.
