Jaume Collboni, mayor of Barcelona, announced this Tuesday that the Catalan capital will be the guest of honor at the International Book Fair (FIL) in Guadalajara (Mexico) in 2025. An initiative that will “make a reality” the City Council's objective of recovering and promoting the city's culture, the mayor explained. “Mexico is a country that has historically been a welcoming land for our writers, where personalities like Luis Cernuda and Agustí Bartra found refuge.
Now it offers us a historic opportunity for literature, culture and science made in Catalonia,” stated Collboni, who joined via Zoom from his house, since he has been infected with Covid. “We have to promote translations into Spanish of authors in Catalan and improve the redistribution of Catalan publishers and we must take advantage of the opportunity of the FIL of Guadalajara,” he added.
