Interview with Agustín Tejada (Castejón-Navarra 1961)

He has been an English teacher for thirty years. “La sombra del rey de Jerusalén” is his latest published novel.

In this interview he tells us about it and many other topics. I appreciate the time given for this interview.

ACTUALIDAD LITERATURA: “La sombra del rey de Jerusalén is your latest novel. What is it about?

AGUSTÍN TEJADA: This is the epic of Baldwin IV, also called the leper king, since he ascended to the throne when he was only 15 years old, already affected by such the cruel disease. We are in the time of the Crusades (12th century), when the kingdom of Jerusalem and, in general, the entire Holy Land was a bloody battlefield. The truth is that the life of this monarch always seemed admirable to me because of the courage he displayed during his short reign. To confront leprosy – while he could –, the intrigues of the Court, and the implacable threat of Sultan Saladin.
