The Seville Book Fair, Spain, which will be held from October 26 to November 5, has announced who will be the recipients of their 2023 awards. Antonio María Ávila, executive director of the Federation of Publishers Guilds of Spain;
the writer Fernando Iwasak; and the oral narrator and reading facilitator Alicia Bululú, have been selected by the jury.
Antonio María Ávila, Sevillian by birth, has been given the award in the Professional Career category for ''his relentless work and promotion of the book sector in Andalusia. Especially since this is the year of his retirement, this seems like an act of justice, more over because he is being recognized in his own turf,'' as highlighted in the jury minutes.
For his part, Fernando Iwasaki, a writer with a well-known and long career, obtains the Figure of the Year Award for having become ''an essential bridge between the literatures produced in Spain and America.'' Likewise, in 2023 all his facets of narrator, essayist, historian, cultural manager, and university professor come together in Iwasaki. Iwasaki has been a columnist for the Seville newspaper ABC since 2000 and a contributor to the Sunday supplement El País Semanal, the program Julia en la Onda and the magazine Jot Down.
