Alberto Vázquez-Figueroa is celebrating his birthday today.

Writer, journalist, and inventor, he is one of the most read contemporary authors in Spain and around the world. To celebrate, let's take a look at some of his many books in this selection.

Alberto Vázquez-Figueroa was born in 1936 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and grew up in the Spanish Sahara after the beginning of the Civil War, a fact that influenced his later literary career. He returned to the Canary Islands in his adolescence and worked as a diving instructor before going to Madrid to study Journalism. He was a correspondent for La Vanguardia and Televisión Española.

Ever the adventurous spirit, after graduating from journalism, he bought a sailboat with a couple of friends and sailed to Polynesia. A lover of reading the greats such as Stevenson, Verne, Conrad, and Melville, his more than one hundred published titles have been translated into Chinese, Bulgarian, Russian, and Arabic, and he has sold 32 million copies worldwide.
