For the first time an author from Chile receives this recognition that the Chilean Ministry of Culture has granted since 2012.
Alejandro Zambra (Santiago, 48 years old) has won the Manuel Rojas Ibero-American Narrative Prize. The award seeks to reward an Ibero-American author with an outstanding career, whose work is considered a notable contribution to the cultural and artistic dialogue of Ibero-America.
In its last edition, 2021, the award was given to the Argentine writer Mempo Giardinelli. Other authors who have received this recognition are the Argentineans Ricardo Piglia, César Aira, Hebe Uhart and María Moreno; from Mexico, Juan Villoro and Margo Glantz; from Brazil, Rubem Fonseca; and from El Salvador, Horacio Castellanos Moya
