The cartoonist wins the award for 'Grito nocturno,' a neo-Gothic graphic novel about identity and oblivion.
The cartoonist Borja González has been awarded this Friday with the National Comic Award for 2023, for his graphic novel ‘Grito nocturno,’ defined as “a horror story about identity and oblivion.” In its comments, the jury highlights “the lyricism and surrealism” of the work, which it describes as “a graphic work of great elegance and exquisite beauty with which the author constructs an album that is as fun to read as it is profound and fascinating. A work of neo-Gothic character in which the strength and vitality of its female protagonists stand out.”
Furthermore, the jury emphasizes that “Borja González is capable of transmitting with his work emotions that capture and engage through his stylized faceless characters. ‘Grito nocturno’ is a work with a dreamlike and everyday touch at the same time, which makes the reader dream and participate."
