Álvaro Lozano is a cardiologist by profession and a writer of historical novels in his spare time.

He has published “Irene de Atenas,” set in the Byzantine period, and the latest, “Olvido y Crueldad.”  He talks about this work the interview. I am very grateful for the time and kindness he has shown me.

ActualidadLiteratura: Your latest novel is called “Olvido y Crueldad.”  What can you tell us about it and where did the idea come from?

Alvaro Lozano: The original idea for the book arose from the character of María de Padilla. At first it was going to be a novel about her, but as I got deeper into the research phase, I discovered all those women who had somehow influenced the life of King Pedro the Cruel or helped to explain who he was with their stories.
