The BNE receives the entire archive from the Asociación de Escritores y Artistas Españoles (Association of Spanish Writers and Artists).

The archive includes all the documentation of the history of the association without any gaps.

The director of the BNE, Ana Santos Aramburo, has signed, together with the president of the AEAE (Asociación de Escritores y Artistas Españoles), Juan Van-Halen Acedo, the agreement whereby the AEAE donates its entire archive to the BNE.

The AEAE is a Cultural Institution founded in the 19th century, which looks after the professional interests of writers and artists, and, consequently, for the promotion and defense of literature and the arts in Spain.

It was created on November 3rd, 1871, with a national scope, and the Endowing Deed was granted on December 31st, 1875, with the support of the Royal House. Founding members were, among others, Juan Valera, Emilio Castelar, Ramón de Campoamor, Benito Pérez Galdós, Tomas Bretón, etc. AEAE’s presidency has been held by illustrious names, such as the poet Gaspar Núñez de Arce, Echegaray, Benlliure and Canalejas.
