The data of the Spanish public libraries, corresponding to the year 2021, is now available on the Spanish Public Libraries portal in figures from the Ministry of Culture and Sports.
It should be noted that, on that date, there were 4,570 active public libraries in Spain, more than 17 million users and more than 36 million library loans.
The collection of data from public libraries is a joint initiative between the Ministry of Culture and Sports and the Autonomous Communities in order to obtain a more accurate and complete picture of the public library sector in our country. The objective is to launch a whole series of actions aimed at obtaining reliable data on this library service in the national territory and to provide analysis and evaluation tools for this data. It is about giving an account of the Spanish library situation and the level of development reached by Spanish public libraries.
