'Nunca se sabe y otros relatos,' the city seen as a fish tank

Mónica Monteys, writer and founder of the Gatopardo publishing house, practices an authentic local narrative through stories with a deep humor that borders on the fierce.

In 2015, the renowned critic of this medium, J. Ernesto Ayala-Dip, observed that Mónica Monteys had perfected the art of the best short story in her first book in this genre, ‘Normandía,’ after writing the poetry collection ‘Los años olvidados,’ in 1991, with a prologue by Rosa Navarro.

Monteys has carried out all kinds of editorial work, due to her excellent reading biography, that biography that those who dedicate themselves to literary life carry with them and sometimes let them guess in their tastes and in her own writing. If the material of readings is low, what happens in creation is predictable and even useless. If it is abundant and even extravagant, creation infuse these readings, but does not trace them.

Monteys is a hearty and passionate reader, and she is certainly quirky, but she is quirky in a subtle and even matter-of-fact way, even if she doesn't give up on humor.
