Long life for paper books

Liber, the annual fair for the publishing industry, will take place from October 4th to 6th, in an edition marked by the comeback of the industry.

"When he woke up, the paper book was still there." Paraphrasing the shortest story in Spanish literature, written by the Honduran Augusto Monterroso, it is possible to describe what has happened to the publishing industry in recent decades. Condemned to digitization and the death of printed versions more than 20 years ago, today this business in Spain is still alive and with increasing financial health.

Of the 2,900 million euros that the publishing business in Spain billed last year, most corresponded to books on paper, according to data from the Federation of Publishers Guilds of Spain (FGEE). "The prophets of the apocalypse predicted that by the year 2000 the paper book would no longer exist, but it has shown extraordinary resilience," says Daniel Fernández, president of the FGEE.
