The 2022 Lazarillo Awards were awarded on June 6th in the "Caixabank" Pavilion of the Madrid Book Fair.
The poet Javier González Calero and the illustrators Mercé López and Javier Bermúdez are the winners of the 63rd edition of the 2022 Lazarillo Awards in the “Literary Creation” and “Illustrated Album” categories, respectively. The prizes are endowed with 6,000 euros in each category, recognizing children and young adult literature and illustration in the four official languages of Spain.
This prestigious award, the oldest in the Spanish State, in children and young adult literature was convened by the now extinct Spanish National Book Institute in 1958 in order to promote the creation of good books for children and youngsters and since 1986 the Organización Española Para el Libro Infantil y Juvenil, OEPLI, (Spanish Organization for Children and Young Adult Books) is in charge of convening them annually, and is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Sport. This edition also had the collaboration of McDonald's.
