'La francesa Laura' by Lope de Vega identified in the BNE

The authorship of the work was determined by Artificial Intelligence.

It has been confirmed that 'La francesa Laura' is a work by Lope de Vega, a comedy by an anonymous author until January 2023, which has been in the National Library of Spain.

A finding of this magnitude was possible thanks to the decisive intervention of Artificial Intelligence, which takes a giant step forward as a powerful tool at the service of Philology. Without it, the comedy manuscript would still be sleeping on the shelves of the National Library of Spain for many years.

The reliability of Lopesca authorship is greater than 99%, as Álvaro Cuéllar and Germán Vega García-Luengos explain in their complete critical edition, which saw the light of day this May thanks to Gredos and the Prolope project. Germán Vega himself will talk about this project with José Luís Bueren, technical director of the BNE, at the meeting to be held today at the Madrid Book Fair: 'Algorithms in search and capture of Lope de Vega: the acknowledgement of the comedy ‘La Francesa Laura'.
