Gioconda Belli: winner of the Reina Sofía Prize for Ibero-American Poetry

Gioconda Belli, the 74-year-old Nicaraguan poet and novelist who lives in Madrid, has won the XXXII Reina Sofia Award for American Poetry, as announced by the jury at the Royal Palace in Madrid.

The prize has a financial endowment of 42,100 euros that are added to the edition of an anthological collection of poems by the winner, as well as an academic act.

The jury has highlighted "her creative expressiveness, freedom and poetic courage". The National Heritage of Spain and the University of Salamanca annually award this prize, the most important for poetry in Spanish and Portuguese, to recognize the entire work of a living author who, due to their literary value, constitutes a relevant contribution to the common cultural heritage of Ibero-America and Spain.
