Carmen Martín Gaite 'Entre visillos': the drama of stagnant lives

'La Lectura' exclusively publishes the prologue that María Dueñas has written for the new edition of 'Entre visillos', a classic with which Martín Gaite won the Nadal Prize in 1957, which is recovered by Austral Editorial.

Lots of little notes like these make up the universe of “Entre visillos,” the first novel by Carmen Martín Gaite, winner of the most significant literary award of the moment, the Nadal Prize in its 1957 edition. She presented it under a pseudonym and followed the voting on the radio while she took care of her sleeping daughter and drank a couple of glasses of red wine to appease her nerves. She ended up sitting on the floor when she received confirmation by phone from Josep Vergés, owner and director of the Destino publishing house.
