Leidy González wins the El Barco de Vapor Caribe Children's Literature Award 2023

The object of this award is to promote literature among children and youngsters to encourage a love of reading.

The SM Puerto Rico Foundation held the fourth call for entries for the El Barco de Vapor Caribe Children's Literature Award 2023, in which hundreds of writers from the Dominican Republic, Cuba and Puerto Rico participated. Out of a total of 139 manuscripts of children and young adult literature, the Cuban writer Leidy González Amador was the winner of this most prestigious award in the Caribbean with her work “Faruk y la cabra.”

«We reward the work for its extraordinary ability to move, surprise and captivate the reader. We are very pleased to award this prize of excellence to this young author who stood out among hundreds of representative manuscripts from the three participating countries," said Juan Reyes, general director of SM in Puerto Rico, recalling that the manuscript “Las ventanas de las palabras,” by Elena Beatriz Corujo, also Cuban, was the winner of the III El Barco de Vapor Caribe Award 2022.
