Gemma Ruiz and Eva García Sáenz de Urturi lead fiction sales at Sant Jordi

The Booksellers Guild estimates that sales exceed those of 2022 by 5% on this historic day.

The Catalan Booksellers Guild celebrates that Sant Jordi in 2023 has been "the best in history" with an “overwhelming participation," after publishing its first sales balance this Sunday. The Book Chamber of Catalonia points out, in a statement, that sales exceeded 5% in relation to those of 2022 and that just in Barcelona alone, 11% more stops were added, reaching 320.

The authors Gemma Ruiz Palà and Eva García Sáenz de Urturi lead the fiction section with “Les nostres mares” (Proa Editors) and “El ángel de la ciudad” (Planeta), respectively. Following are Javier Bosch and Maggie O’Farrel with “El retrat de matrimony” (L'Altra). The best-selling fiction authors in Spanish after Sáenz de Urturi, Planeta 2020 award winner, have been Elisabet Benavent, “Como (no) escribí nuestra historia,” (Suma) and O'Farrell also with the Spanish version of the “Retrat de matrimoni” (El retrato de casada, Libros del Asteroid).
