“El síndrome del lector” –which has its origins in the blog Notes for Curious Readers– is a book for book lovers, for compulsive readers.
Reader's syndrome is not a disease discussed in any medical manual, but it has been frequently described in literature. It is impossible to ignore its symptoms: the patient reads and reads without control; rain or shine, day or night, in health or in sickness. Those affected, however, do not believe they are really sick since reading is something as necessary and as natural for them as breathing.
They are people who include more books than clothes in their suitcase and for whom the perfect plan for a Saturday afternoon is to go to bookstores. People, you see, there is no remedy. And if someone invented a remedy to cure this syndrome, none of the patients would want to take it.
