The Mexican writer Guadalupe Nettel is a finalist for the International Booker Prize for 'La hija única.'

The translation of the author's fourth novel is a finalist for the prestigious British literary award with works by writers such as Eva Baltasar from Catalonia and Maryse Condé from Guadalupe. The novel was translated by Rosaling Harvey.

The shortlist of finalists announced this Tuesday, also includes the Catalan writer Eva Baltasar, with “Boulder;” the Guadeloupean Maryse Condé, with “The Gospel According to the New World;” GauZ' from Ivory Coast, with “Standing Heavy;” the Bulgarian Georgi Gospodinov, with “Time Shelter,” and the South Korean Cheon Myeong-kwan, with “Whale.”

The winner of the prize, which recognizes the best international work of fiction translated into English and awards 50,000 British pounds, will be announced on May 23.
