The writer Clara Sánchez, chosen to occupy the X chair of the RAE

The philologist and writer is one of the most relevant voices in national narrative, awarded prizes such as Nadal and El Planeta.

The Plenary of the Real Academia Española (RAE) has elected in its session on Thursday, March 23rd, the writer and philologist Clara Sánchez (Guadalajara, March 1, 1955) to occupy the X chair, vacant since the death of Francisco Brines on May 20th, 2021. Her candidacy was presented by the academics Soledad Puértolas, Carme Riera and Paloma Díaz-Mas.

Clara Sánchez graduated in Hispanic Philology from the Universidad Complutense  with a thesis, directed by Teodosio Fernández, professor of Hispanic-American Literature at the Autonomous University.  He spoke about La Narrativa Mexicana de la Onda: Gustavo Sainz, a study aimed at unraveling how the so-called Mexican “juvenilismo” was slaughtering narrative art and enriching it with an unknown freshness and irreverence.
