Eva Baltasar brings a novel written in Catalan to the International Booker Prize 2023

The Catalan writer is nominated along with several writers whose work has been translated into English.

The nominees for the International Booker Prize this 2023 present the translations of works that come from Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America. Among this year's nominees is the oldest female writer to be nominated, and three writers who, for the first time publish in English. The welcome news for Spanish literature is that the Catalan writer Eva Baltasar has been selected for her novel “Boulder,” originally published in Catalan under the Club Editor label and later translated into Spanish by Penguin Random House.

The International Booker Prize jury is chaired by award-winning French-Moroccan novelist Leïla Slimani and the panel of experts includes Uilleam Blacker, one of Britain's leading literary translators of Ukrainian; Tan Twan Eng, Malaysian novelist shortlisted by Booker; Parul Sehgal, writer and critic for the New Yorker magazine, and Frederick Studemann, literary editor for the Financial Times.
