They go from novel to poetry, stories and journalism. Some names we know, others are as strange to us as if they had been chosen at random from the white pages; for now.
At this point in the year, it is still early to know which Spanish author will revolutionize the literary scene with their debut novel, even if only for a moment. Publishers publish novelties like hot cakes and the big names tend to outshine the new ones, but some manage to capture the attention of readers, either through word of mouth, recommendations from booksellers and bookstores, conversations on social networks and even the culture press. It seems easy to find them, but it's not that easy: the shadow of established artists such as Paul Auster, Fernando Aramburu and Salman Rushdie is long, and the newly published tables have limited space.
The three mentions are to men, yes, because as Andrea Toribio and Aloma Rodríguez observe in their podcast on literature “La amiga eres tú,” the visibility of literature written by women is expected to be more complicated in 2023 due to the presence of the 'great lords of the letters'.
