'El sótano', the beautiful testament of Begoña Huertas

The best thing about the writer's posthumous novel is that she refuses to write a fiction that hides the desire to let herself go.

It is impossible to separate the reading of ‘El sótano’ from the author’s sickness, from which she died last November. The publication is posthumous, but not the book, delivered to the reader as if the author were still with us.

The Asturian writer (Gijón, 1965-Madrid, 2022) was a PhD in Spanish-American Literature from the Autonomous University of Madrid. In 1993 she won the Casa de las Américas Award for Essay; for the Cuban narrative of the 1980s. She was also the author of the book of stories ‘A tragos’ (1996), and the novels ‘Déjenme dormir en paz’ (1998), ‘Por eso envejecemos tan deprisa’ (2001), and ‘El desconcierto’ (2017), among others.
