Director of Penguin Random House resigns

Madeline McIntosh, former CEO of Penguin Random House: "I don't think CEOs should stay in their jobs forever."

On January 31st, the company announced that Madeline McIntosh, one of the most powerful figures in the American publishing industry, resigns as CEO of Penguin Random House U.S. An announcement that comes just after Penguin Random House CEO and McIntosh’s superior, Markus Dohle, stepped down in December. In addition, the company also lost the purchase of Simon & Schuster, a large rival publisher, after the government sued on antitrust grounds.

According to the statement that Madeline McIntosh has sent to the workers, she does not consider that “general managers should stay in their positions forever. New perspectives can be incredibly healthy and useful for organizations, which is why I think it's not only the best decision for me, but for PRH as well. Although I know that we would have continued to thrive together with me here, I also believe that it is good to accept the change.”
