The Esther Benítez Translation Prize will be awarded on December 13th at the headquarters of the Cervantes Institute in Madrid.
On November 7th, the winner of the XVII Esther Benítez Translation Prize was announced, an award that ACE Translators has been giving since 2006 in memory of the translator Esther Benítez. In this edition, the members have chosen Joaquín Fernández-Valdés Roig-Gironella as the winner for his translation into Spanish of War and Peace by Leon Tolstoy, published by the Alba publishing house.
Joaquín Fernández-Valdés Roig-Gironella is a translator of Russian literature, a Russian-Catalan interpreter and a Spanish-Catalan translator and interpreter. He specializes in 19th-century authors such as Leon Tolstoy, Ivan Turgenev, Anton Chekhov, and Aleksandr Afanasiev. Graduated in Slavic Philology from the University of Barcelona, ??he furthered his studies in Russian language and literature at the Moscow State University. Since 2020 he is a professor of translation of the Russian language at the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
