Juanjo Braulio is from Valencia, born in 1972, and works as a journalist. In 2015 he published his first novel, “El silencio del pantano,” which was a success, and which has recently been adapted to the cinema.
His second novel, “Sucios y malvados,” came out in 2017. In this interview he tells us about them and much more. I am very grateful for his time and kindness.
CURRENT LITERATURE: With your first novel, “El silencio del pantano,” you made your debut with great success in 2015 and a film was made, and the second is “Sucios y Malvados.” Did you expect this good reception in the literary world?
JULIO BRAULIO: I would be lying if I said yes. It is evident that one writes to be read and that as many people as possible read your work is what every writer hopes for. However, the response from critics and the public exceeded any expectations I had hoped for. “El silencio del pantano” was, in addition to my first novel, a challenge that I had given myself as to whether I would be able to do it since up to that time, I had been writing in the media for more than twenty years but I had never taken on a challenge of that magnitude because it is very different to write news, reports or interviews than a novel, which not only requires other codes, but also other disciplines.
