The Jury of the José Luis Sampedro Award 2022 gas handed the award to the writer Antonio Muñoz Molina. The mayor of Getafe, Sara Hernández, has was the one to give the writer the news.
Of the winning writer’s work, it has been said that “his literary quality and his impeccable publishing career more than justify the gallery of awards and recognitions that he treasures," as well as "the winner's balance between his independence as a narrator and his ethical commitment, not only in his novels, but also in his essays and newspaper articles.” For all these reasons, the jury considers that "Antonio Muñoz Molina is a worthy bearer of thehumanistic values ??that represent the José Luis Sampedro award that is given within the Getafe Negro literary festival."
The José Luis Sampedro award was instituted by Getafe Negro in 2009, and Sampedro himself was its first recipient, a tribute that was paid to him in the 3rd edition of the festival. Since then, it has been granted to authors who, like him, have proven in their careers and within any literary genre, an outstanding level of excellence, innovation, and originality, as well as humanistic values ??such as commitment to their time, contribution to the promotion of culture, solidarity between people, the formation of a critical conscience and the defense of freedoms and fundamental rights.
