Along with its usual programming, this year the Formentor Literary Conversations propose a Symposium of translators that seeks to map the role of our literature on the continent.

Just over 5.5 million books were exported by Spain in 2020 to the rest of Europe, according to data from the Foreign Book Trade report prepared by the Federation of the Publishers' Guild, which translated into revenue amounts of around 50 million euros. But in the world of literature money is not everything. The cultural power that a language contains, which can serve to break down topics and borders, is also key.

This was the idea put into practice at the beginning of the 1960s by the group of publishers that founded the Formentor Prize, Giulio Einaudi (Italy), Gaston Gallimard (France), Ernest Rowoth (Germany) and Carlos Barral (Spain), convinced that this international collaboration was one of the keys to promoting quality literature. Carrying on, this year's edition of the award, which is being held in the next days in the Canary Islands, hosts a very interesting Symposium of European Translators that brings together more than 30 participants from almost a dozen countries.
