At this point in the summer, it is a tradition that we announce the historical novels that will arrive in bookstores during the fall. And the break-neck pace of the novelties will not let up, with promising works that will arrive and that will compete in a fierce battle to be the best seller.
Because without a doubt, knowing that this fall there will be a new novel by Arturo Pérez-Reverte, “Revolución” (Alfaguara, October) about the Mexican revolution. Ildefonso Falcones, “Esclava de la Libertad,” (Grijalbo, August 30), about slavery in Cuba during the 19th century; Carmen Posadas fictionalizing the women spies of history with “Licencia para espiar,” (Espasa, October); Isabel San Sebastián’s “La dueña,” about the women of the peninsular Middle Ages (Plaza&Janés, October); José Ángel Mañas will continue his fictionalized review of the Reconquest after “¡Pelayo!” with “¡Fernan Gonzalez!” and José Calvo Poyato returns to the universe of one of his most famous novels, “Sangre en la calle del turco,” with “El año de la República” (HarperCollins Ibérica, September).
