Book sales reached 2,576 million Euros in 2021, the highest figure in ten years, but still far from the more than 3,000 million of 2008.
If there is an industry resistant to turbulence in the world of culture, that is the book sector. Since the entire economy collapsed in 2008 due to the crisis, the publishing sector has been maintaining a sustained recovery that not even Covid has been able to stop. On the contrary, "one of the positive consequences of the pandemic is that a part of the citizenry has rediscovered reading," says Daniel Fernández, president of the Federación de Gremios de Editores de España – FGEE (Federation of Publishers Guilds of Spain), who this Tuesday presented the Internal Book Trade Report for the year 2021, results that he described as “extremely good, if not extraordinary”.
